2016 Forest Park Club Championship results

Perfect weather and smooth rolling greens set the stage for the 96th annual Forest Park Club Championship. In dramatic fashion, Leo Romanos Jr. captured Men’s gross title after a five hole aggregate playoff over Bob Murray. Angie Lingner won her 3rd consecutive Women’s gross title after posting two solid rounds of play. Bob Murray took home the Men’s senior gross honors and Cole Kratz, playing in his first ever club championship, won the low junior award.

A complete listing of results is below, but first some special thanks to Bruce “B” Cardin and his staff for supplying nourishment and post round lubrication and to June Blake and her team for providing a great set up and conditions for all three days. Last but not least, to Leo Romanos who has passionately coordinated and competed in this event for so many years. His win this year marks the 12th Time that he has won this event (most in club history) as he continues to write a chapter in our history books alongside the legends of Mendel and Brodalski.

Great event, great competition, great people……..a great golf club!

Congratulations to our champions!

Men’s Gross – Leo Romanos Jr. (222)
Women’s Gross – Angie Lingner (161)

Well, we’ve been having another great year at Forest Park and things are just heating up. The course is firm and fast and our greens are rolling beautifully thanks to June Blake and her staff. Be sure to take advantage of the great weather we’ve been having and come on up.

Events and Functions
Through the spring and early summer we’ve hosted a slew of functions in our banquet hall and all of which have been met with rave reviews. If you’re thinking of planning a party, shower, etc. be sure to think of Forest Park and call 743-3311 for details.

Weekly Golf Leagues
It’s never too late to get your name on a sub list for our weekly leagues. As vacation time comes along, there’s plenty of opportunities to get out for an extra 9 or 18 holes. Contact the club for details.

Course Notes
June and Stan have inscribed some local tips on playing some of the holes along with historical facts about the course on the handles of our sand trap rakes. When you pick one up to rake the trap you just exited, please be sure to check them out – pretty fascinating stuff….

Final Word
Lastly, congratulations to our very own Chad Alibozek for qualifying and competing in this year’s 108th Massachusetts Amateur held at the Taconic Golf Club. This was Chad’s first time playing in this coveted event and he was one of the youngest in the field of 144 elite Bay State golfers. Great job Chad!

Well that’s all for now boys and girls – see you at the course……..

Spring has Sprung…Fore!

Robins out on the front lawn, tulips popping up in the flower bed, tee markers and pins in………WHAT! That’s right everyone, it’s that time! Forest Park Country Club will be open for play bright and early on Saturday March 12th. This early start (quite possibly the earliest in the clubs history) coincides with daylight savings time (another first) so spring ahead and head on up Forest Park Ave.

Temperatures around 60 degrees and sunshine are in the forecast!

See you there…

Winter News

WHAT WINTER? Though the unusually mild and snow free winter has most winter sports enthusiasts in a funk, it has we golfers itching for an early start! There have already been rumblings, discussions, and predictions about our opening day. There’s nothing concrete yet but provided that Mother Nature continues to behave herself, we’ll be strolling down the fairways sooner than later. The club house opens shortly before the course so check in via social media and the website for updates.

Events and Functions
Speaking of our club house, remember to consider us when booking your next event. We have a beautiful banquet facility to host functions both large and small ranging from parties, showers, receptions, etc. throughout the season. We can even help with coordinating catering and entertainment options. Be sure to contact us early as available dates often fill quickly.

Forest Park has always been a great place to host a tournament. We currently have numerous charity and fundraising events returning to the course annually and are open to other weekday or weekend outings. If you’re considering coordinating a tournament or outing, contact us, you’ll have a great time at our course.

Weekly Golf Leagues
We currently have four leagues (three during the week and one on Sunday morning) during the season and all of them are a blast! Whether you want to be a full time participant or the occasional substitute, keep an eye on the bulletin boards in the club house for sign up information.

Well that’s about all for now boys and girls. I suggest that you start putting on the living room carpet with the PGA tournament on the TV and a cold beverage on the coffee table. Once the beverage is empty, immediately replace it with a full one. At Forest Park, we put a strong emphasis on staying hydrated.
